Youth and Family Support Worker

The Vancouver School Board is seeking a highly skilled and compassionate Youth and Family Support Worker to join our Community School Team/Enhanced Services. As a key member of our team, you will play a vital role in supporting students with social-emotional and behavioural interventions, school and community connectedness, regular attendance, and successful transitions.
Key Responsibilities- Deliver evidence-based strategies and interventions to enhance students' social, emotional, and behavioural functioning in consultation with other support team members.
- Support grade-to-grade transitions, particularly grade 7 to 8 transitions.
- Encourage regular student attendance at school and develop strategies to address attendance barriers.
- Liaise with school-based professionals and community agencies to provide comprehensive support to students and families.
- Plan and implement prevention programs in conjunction with teachers and school staff to promote student success.
- Support students in developing self-awareness, self-regulation, and self-advocacy skills.
- Liaise with families and caregivers to engage in out-of-school time activities that enhance student success.
- Maintain accurate records of services provided to students, including bi-annual reporting requirements.
- Completion of grade 12 plus 2 years of full-time equivalent post-secondary education and/or a diploma in a relevant field, such as psychology, sociology, social work, or child and youth care.
- Minimum of 2 years of related work experience.
- Knowledge of developmental psychology and ability to assess students' behavioural and social-emotional needs.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to establish and maintain effective relationships with diverse individuals and groups.
- Ability to travel throughout the district and work irregular hours, including before, during, and after school times.
