Position Overview:

The Advanced Industrial Mechanic (Millwright) – Level 3 plays a crucial role in ensuring the operational efficiency of machinery by overseeing the training of new personnel in troubleshooting and equipment repairs. This position is also accountable for organizing and managing preventive maintenance tasks within the maintenance team to enhance productivity and minimize downtime.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Conduct comprehensive preventive maintenance inspections and repairs, ensuring effective communication during shift transitions to maintain equipment performance.
  • Facilitate training sessions for new hires, focusing on preventive maintenance and troubleshooting methodologies, while collaborating with internal and external teams.
  • Gather and prepare technical documentation for training initiatives related to both new and existing machinery, prioritizing safety and quality.
  • Oversee spare parts inventory management, aligning maintenance schedules with inventory levels to ensure optimal equipment functionality.
  • Analyze machinery failures and propose enhancements to preventive maintenance strategies to boost equipment reliability.
  • Foster communication regarding best practices in machinery maintenance among colleagues and management, promoting continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Create a collaborative work environment by prioritizing departmental workflows to meet production and quality standards.
  • Assess the frequency of maintenance activities to align with operational demands and equipment requirements.
  • Ensure ongoing communication among mechanics to drive improvements in cost efficiency and product quality.
  • Execute machinery installations and removals, adhering to safe rigging protocols.
  • Adjust and calibrate machinery to achieve optimal operational specifications.
  • Exhibit strong analytical, decision-making, and problem-solving capabilities.
  • Demonstrate excellent organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple tasks effectively.
  • Perform additional facility-related duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

  • Minimum of 4 years of relevant experience as a mechanic millwright or in a similar role within the ophthalmic or related industry, including experience in training personnel.
  • Post-secondary education in machinery repair, millwrighting, engineering, or a related field.
  • Preferred: 433A Industrial Mechanic Millwright license or equivalent.
  • Strong knowledge of mechanics, pneumatics, hydraulics, and electronics in automated systems.
  • Proficient in reading technical manuals, electrical/hydraulic schematics, and ladder logic diagrams.
  • Competent in computer applications, including Windows 10, Microsoft Office, and SAP.
  • Ability to collaborate across various levels and work within cross-functional teams.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Experience in automation integration and troubleshooting.
  • Knowledge of PLC programming and troubleshooting.
  • Highly motivated team player with a commitment to continuous learning.
  • Valid G driver's license in Ontario with a clean driving record or the ability to obtain a Canadian driver's license within six months of employment.
