About the Role

The Commercial Banking Relationship Manager plays a key role in the success of Scotiabank's Commercial Banking team in Canada. This individual will contribute to the execution of business strategies and objectives, ensuring all activities are in compliance with governing regulations, internal policies, and procedures.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop and grow the commercial banking portfolio in an assigned market area, promoting profitable growth and building strong relationships with clients.
  • Build and maintain a market profile in an assigned market area, fostering relationships with internal and external contacts.
  • Manage an assigned credit portfolio for authorizations up to $5MM, ensuring an acceptable level of risk.
  • Develop and implement a marketing strategy to maximize business development opportunities for sustainable growth.
  • Develop sales plans for prospects and existing customers, identifying opportunities for growth and expansion.
  • Partner with internal resources to provide non-credit related products and services to clients.
  • Referring customers and prospects to the appropriate Commercial Banking segment and partners as appropriate.
  • Plan and complete relationship activities that generate sales opportunities and/or provide value to clients.
  • Stay up-to-date on local market and general economic conditions, providing insights to inform business decisions.

Education / Experience / Other Information

  • Undergraduate degree in business or economics or work equivalency.
  • Previous work experience of at least 2 years or completion of Scotiabank's Training Program is preferred.
  • Strong sales, closing, and negotiation skills, as well as good credit skills.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build and maintain strong relationships with clients and internal stakeholders.
  • Strong knowledge of Scotiabank's commercial lending and deposit products and services, as well as customer profitability models.
  • Ability to conduct due diligence on customer financials for deals of lower to moderate complexity.
  • Thorough knowledge of relationship building and teamwork skills, with the ability to work effectively in a team environment.

Pursuant to a language needs assessment conducted by Scotiabank, the successful candidate will be required to be able to communicate in English and French, as they will be working closely with other groups from head office who operate primarily in English and will serve an English and French-speaking clientele frequently.
