As a vital member of our team, you will report directly to the Director of Corporate Accounting and Taxation. Your role will involve active participation in various aspects of corporate accounting, tax compliance, and related projects.
Key Responsibilities:
Corporate Taxation Management:
- Oversee monthly and quarterly tax remittances and their corresponding accounting entries;
- Coordinate tax provision activities and annual return preparations with external advisors;
- Assist the Director in implementing new tax regulations and provide necessary training to colleagues.
Support for Commodity Tax Team:
- Assist in the timely submission of tax returns to government entities (GST/QST, PST, fuel, and carbon taxes);
- Review documentation to ensure completeness and proper documentation of exemptions;
- Support the tax team during audits by providing required documentation and following up on audit recommendations;
- Contribute to special projects, including archival tasks and statistical preparations.
Risk Analysis:
- Conduct thorough analyses of suppliers' financial statements during tender processes;
- Calculate and compare financial ratios against industry standards and competitors;
- Advise procurement officers on risk assessments and necessary documentation.
Compliance with Non-Resident Tax Regulations:
- Ensure timely payments and remittances for non-resident taxes;
- Manage the production and issuance of T4A-NR forms;
- Review and approve withholding calculations performed by the Accounts Payable team;
- Act as the primary contact for government audits.
Lease and Contract Analysis:
- Conduct completeness analyses of new contracts;
- Document and analyze the accounting treatment of company contracts;
- Assist in determining the implicit borrowing rate for IFRS 16 compliance with external advisors.
Collaboration with Senior Accountant:
- Prepare initial drafts of financial statement notes and calculate related financial data.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in business administration or finance;
- CPA designation or in progress;
- Strong knowledge of IFRS, Canadian corporate taxation, and commodity taxes;
- A minimum of 6 years of relevant experience in corporate accounting;
- Experience in corporate accounting within medium to large organizations;
- Proficient in Microsoft Office applications.
