Developmental Disability Support Worker, Full-Time, 40hrs/wk

We are seeking a highly skilled and compassionate Specialized Outreach Worker to join our team at WJS Canada. As a key member of our team, you will play a vital role in supporting individuals with developmental disabilities, FAS/FAE, and/or Autism Spectrum Disorder.
Key Responsibilities- Initiate Contact and Build Relationships
Establish and maintain positive relationships with referred individuals, their families, and other stakeholders. Conduct intake interviews and assess suitability for services, ensuring a comprehensive understanding of each individual's needs and goals.
Assess Support Needs and Develop Service PlansConduct thorough assessments to identify support needs and develop personalized service plans that align with Dr. Shalock's Quality of Life Indicators. Collaborate with individuals, families, and other professionals to ensure plans are comprehensive and effective.
Provide Support and GuidanceOffer emotional support, guidance, and advocacy to individuals, helping them access community resources, develop skills, and achieve their goals. Monitor progress, provide feedback, and make recommendations for improvement.
Make Referrals and Connect Individuals with ResourcesIdentify and connect individuals with relevant community resources, services, and programs, ensuring they receive the support they need to thrive.
Advocate and Support Self-AdvocacyEmpower individuals to self-advocate, making their voices heard and ensuring their rights are respected. Provide support and guidance to help individuals navigate complex systems and make informed decisions.
Review Progress and ReportRegularly review individuals' progress, documenting achievements and areas for improvement. Provide reports to stakeholders, highlighting successes and challenges.
Liaise with Agencies and ProfessionalsEstablish and maintain relationships with other agencies, professionals, and community stakeholders, ensuring seamless collaboration and support for individuals.
Develop Personalized Service PlansWork with individuals to develop comprehensive, person-centered service plans that address their unique needs and goals.
Support Homeless IndividualsIdentify and support homeless individuals in the community, ensuring their well-being and safety.
Think Creatively and Find SolutionsApproach challenges with creativity and resourcefulness, identifying innovative solutions to support individuals and their families.
Requirements- Education and Experience
A degree, diploma, or certificate in a related field, such as the humanities, social work, or a related field. A minimum of one year of experience working with individuals with developmental disabilities, FAS/FAE, and/or Autism Spectrum Disorder.
Certifications and TrainingValid CPR/First Aid certificate, Non-Violent Crisis Intervention Certificate (i.e. MANDT) certification, and a clear physician's note confirming suitability, including a negative tuberculosis screening test.
Driver's License and AbstractA valid Class 5 BC Driver's License and a current driver's abstract.
Confidentiality and EthicsA commitment to maintaining confidentiality and adhering to a code of ethics, including an oath of confidentiality, a conflict of interest statement, abuse protocols, and a code of ethics statement.
Technology and CommunicationConsistent access to a computer, working printer, scanner, and copier, as well as a cellular phone with a data plan.
