Job Summary:

The University of Ottawa is seeking a highly qualified Visual Design Instructor to teach User Experience Design in our Faculty of Arts. As a Visual Design Instructor, you will be responsible for teaching students the fundamentals of visual, interaction, and motion design theories and principles as they relate to User Experience Design (UXD).

Responsibilities:

  • Teach students the principles of visual design, interaction design, and motion design as they relate to UXD
  • Lead hands-on workshops and assignments that focus on building visual literacy through guided observations, visual design critiques, and visual redesigns of existing screen-based digital products
  • Guide students in completing a design project that demonstrates their understanding of UXD principles
  • Conduct research and scholarship in visual literacy and UXD, and justify design decisions in writing

Requirements:

  • PhD in a relevant field, such as Visual Arts or Design
  • Relevant graduate degree and professional experience in a field related to visual arts and user experience design
  • Expert knowledge of visual, interaction, and motion design theories, as well as branding strategies, emotional engagement, data visualization, and storytelling as it relates to UXD
  • Significant experience managing and mentoring artistic and technical people on UX design projects

Working Conditions:

This is a part-time faculty position, with a workload of 39 hours per week. The successful candidate will be expected to teach in a classroom setting and participate in departmental service activities.
