Job Summary

The Walking School Bus Escort is a vital role within the Pembina Trails School Division, responsible for ensuring the safe transportation of students to and from school. As a key member of our team, you will be responsible for leading a group of students along a designated route, promoting safe walking practices and providing a positive experience for our students.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead a group of students along a designated route to and from school, ensuring their safety and well-being at all times.
  • Model safe walking practices and promote pedestrian safety among students.
  • Monitor traffic flow and exercise judgment when determining safe opportunities to cross streets with students.
  • Communicate traffic and crossing rules to students, ensuring they understand safe practices.
  • Report any issues or concerns to the Administrator(s) and maintain confidentiality regarding student information.
  • Comply with all safety requirements and wear approved safety equipment, including a safety vest, at all times.
  • Perform other duties as assigned to support the efficient operation of the Walking School Bus program.

Requirements

  • Must be at least 18 years of age.
  • Must be able to communicate clearly with students and others, with good English language skills.
  • Ability to work both independently and in a team environment.
  • Good physical condition, including sight, hearing, and mobility.

Working Conditions

  • The role involves working in all types of weather conditions throughout the year.
  • Cold weather clothing, such as a winter coat, ski pants, winter boots, gloves, toque, scarf, etc. are required during the winter months.
  • Ability to walk long distances.
  • Must be at the designated pick-up location at the designated time.
