Facility Overview: The Public Health Program operates from a clinic that serves various communities. The role will involve traveling to different areas to implement public health initiatives.
Position Overview: The Public Health Nurse will leverage their assessment and nursing expertise to support clients in achieving optimal health. Responsibilities include conducting assessments, providing education, and executing public health nursing programs.
Key Responsibilities:
- Educating clients during prenatal and postnatal stages in both group and individual settings.
- Implementing comprehensive health programs within educational institutions.
- Evaluating the needs of community members, facilitating referrals, and supporting families.
- Delivering pre and postnatal care.
- Managing communicable disease control and tuberculosis initiatives.
- Providing direct care through health assessments, care planning, intervention implementation, and outcome evaluation.
- Encouraging healthy lifestyle choices and promoting health awareness.
- Acting as an advocate for clients and serving as a liaison between health services and other organizations.
Qualifications:
- A minimum of a Bachelor of Science Degree in Nursing, with current registration in good standing with the relevant nursing regulatory body.
- Experience in Public Health and/or Acute Care is preferred.
- Experience working with Indigenous communities is advantageous.
- Proficiency in Cree language is a significant asset.
- Ability to collaborate effectively within a team.
- Willingness to travel to various communities.
- A valid Class 5 Driver's License is required.
- Strong problem-solving and organizational skills.
- Exceptional interpersonal and public relations capabilities.
- Proficient in computer applications, particularly Microsoft Office.
- Ability to work independently and demonstrate self-direction.
