Job Title: Reporter
Job Description:
- Passion for reporting on municipal issues
- Skilled in photography for publication
- Ability to generate unique story ideas
- Familiar with Canadian Libel Law and Canadian Press Style
- Collaborate with the managing editor to create compelling local news stories
- Create high-quality journalism through excellent reporting and research
- Produce multimedia content for website and social media platforms
- Travel within the community to cover events and stories outside of regular hours
Key Responsibilities:
- Conduct in-depth research and interviews to gather information for news stories
- Write and edit news articles for publication in print and online
- Take high-quality photographs for use in news stories
- Develop and maintain a strong understanding of local issues and events
- Collaborate with other journalists and editors to produce high-quality content
- Stay up-to-date with industry trends and best practices in journalism
Requirements:
- Minimum of one year newsroom experience
- Strong interviewing and online journalism skills
- Demonstrated news judgment and work ethic
- Proficient in photography
- Experience with virtual newsrooms
- Flexible schedule, including evenings and weekends
- Access to a vehicle and valid driver's license
- Excellent communication and organizational skills
- Able to thrive in a fast-paced environment
