Engineering Operations Manager

Position Overview:

The Engineering Operations Manager is responsible for fostering, nurturing, and advancing the culture and community of Engineering professionals. This role involves guiding the team on expertise, competencies, and overseeing the TD Insurance Life & Health Product Group. The manager will oversee all applications related to Life and Health utilized by the organization. Key responsibilities include ensuring successful project execution, maintaining asset integrity, managing risk profiles, and ensuring the operational availability of these assets. This is an exciting opportunity to contribute to the strategic direction of the product group.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Lead a cross-functional team of IT specialists to meet the needs and requirements of business clients and internal stakeholders.
  • Oversee project delivery for the designated applications, coordinating with Technology Project Managers for execution.
  • Set daily management objectives and define priorities and strategies that align with business goals and the overarching direction from the Technology Leadership team.
  • Effectively communicate the business vision and portfolio priorities to team members.
  • Develop impact assessments and manage the delivery schedule for the assigned portfolio.
  • Ensure compliance with the Capacity Forecasting process among Technology Project Managers.
  • Evaluate change requests and issues across the portfolio.
  • Manage vendor relationships within the area, ensuring timely and accurate communication and resolution of issues.
  • Assist in evaluating project scope and associated risks.
  • Collaborate closely with IT leadership to emphasize reusability, scalability, and enterprise-wide solutions.

SHAREHOLDER ACCOUNTABILITIES:

  • Monitor and assess progress for ongoing projects within the portfolio.
  • Evaluate work plans and their impact on schedules across the portfolio.
  • Adhere to enterprise technology delivery practices and standards.
  • Track major project deliverables and provide updates as necessary.
  • Ensure understanding of operational, reputational, and intellectual risks.
  • Stay informed about competition, customer/industry trends, and technological innovations.
  • Maintain a high level of customer service and ensure commitments are fulfilled.
  • Keep abreast of technology solutions initiatives and IT direction.
  • Comprehend business requirements and leverage knowledge to prioritize project delivery.

TEAM MANAGEMENT:

  • Prioritize and manage personal workload while supporting team members' workloads.
  • Foster a positive work environment that encourages service, quality, innovation, and teamwork.
  • Establish and maintain effective communication with clients and team members.
  • Contribute to the ongoing development of the team and business partners.
  • Identify and propose opportunities to enhance productivity and operational efficiency.
  • Engage in knowledge transfer within the team and across business units.
  • Build effective relationships with various business and technology partners.

SKILLS & EXPERIENCE:

  • Undergraduate degree or Technical Certificate.
  • Proven experience as a subject matter expert and consultant.
  • Familiarity with various Web Application Design/Development technologies.
  • Experience with JavaEE frameworks, runtime environments, Web Services Design/Development, Unix shell scripting, Agile methodologies, and continuous integration and delivery processes, along with relational DBMS proficiency.

Additional experience with big/distributed/non-relational data technologies and integration with vendor products is advantageous.
