Technical Manager, Waste Management


AtkinsRéalis is a leading provider of nuclear engineering services, with a strong presence in Canada and around the world. We are seeking a highly experienced Technical Manager to lead our Waste Management team.


The Technical Manager will be responsible for overseeing the execution of design and technical activities in a project delivery environment, in accordance with industry standards and established governance. This will involve managing a team of engineers and ensuring that all work is conducted in accordance with applicable Engineering and Quality Assurance procedures.


Key Responsibilities


  1. Manage a team of engineers responsible for designing and implementing waste management solutions.
  2. Oversee the execution of design and technical activities, ensuring that all work is conducted in accordance with industry standards and established governance.
  3. Develop and implement quality management systems to ensure that all work meets the required standards.
  4. Collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure that waste management solutions are integrated with other project activities.
  5. Provide technical guidance and support to staff, as required.
  6. Ensure that all work is conducted in accordance with applicable Engineering and Quality Assurance procedures.
  7. Approve engineering documents and deliverables.
  8. Participate in the preparation of commercial proposals and approve the technical content of proposals prepared under their direction.
  9. Forecast resource demands for the assigned work scope, including required skills, capabilities, and durations.
  10. Work with marketing and other business groups to maintain and improve client relationships and offerings.

Requirements


To be successful in this role, you will need:


  1. A Bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering, chemical engineering, nuclear engineering or engineering science from an accredited university.
  2. Registered Professional Engineer in the Province of Ontario, or eligible within six (6) months of hire.
  3. Experience managing engineering work with significant interfacing requirements with other engineering teams.
  4. Experience working within a Quality Management System (CSA N286) and quality standards (CSA N299).
  5. Experience managing and/or performing work using nuclear Codes and Standards related to waste management, decommissioning, environmental assessments.
  6. Working knowledge of/experience with CSA N285.0, ASME Section III, CSA B51 Standard, ASME B31.1 code, and other applicable standards or regulatory guides.
  7. Experience in procurement, operation, and maintenance of waste management equipment / components.
  8. 10 years of experience in heavy water and tritium management, waste management, radiation and environmental protection, environmental impact assessment, refurbishment, safe storage, decommissioning and ALARA (As Low As Reasonably Achievable) and/or BAT assessment of CANDU design.
  9. 5 years nuclear and/or CANDU technology experience.
  10. 3 or more years of experience leading engineering teams.
  11. Experience working in a nuclear facility licensed in Canada is an asset.
  12. Site experience in construction, or commissioning of systems for nuclear or other heavy industries is an asset.
  13. Proven track record of performance in a multidiscipline, dynamic project delivery environment.
  14. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  15. Excellent organization and time management skills.
