The Nuclear Waste Management Technical Leader plays a crucial role within the Project Management Team (PMT) for the CANDU MONARK Project, leading a dedicated team of systems design and equipment engineers focused on Nuclear Waste Management. This position is responsible for overseeing the execution of design and technical initiatives within a project delivery framework, ensuring compliance with industry standards and governance protocols. The Technical Leader will report functionally to the Director of Process and Civil Engineering, while maintaining daily communication with the project Technical Director.
Key Responsibilities:
- Overseeing teams and individuals executing work packages in the nuclear waste management domain.
- Guiding the design process through all stages of development.
- Planning and executing tasks to meet quality, cost, and scheduling objectives.
- Identifying and mitigating barriers affecting project performance.
- Collaborating with team members to devise optimal solutions for project challenges.
- Providing technical mentorship to team members as necessary.
- Ensuring adherence to Engineering and Quality Assurance protocols, including contracts, specifications, and technical requirements.
- Reviewing and approving engineering documents and deliverables.
- Contributing to the preparation of commercial proposals and validating the technical content of submissions prepared under their guidance.
- Anticipating resource needs for assigned tasks, including necessary skills and durations.
- Engaging with marketing and other business units to enhance client relationships and service offerings.

Supervisory Duties:
The Technical Leader will manage a team of up to 30 engineering professionals. Supervisory duties include:
- Promoting a positive team culture where achievements are acknowledged and celebrated.
- Coaching team members for enhanced performance.
- Handling administrative responsibilities.
- Assisting the Functional Management team with recruitment, performance evaluations, performance improvement, goal setting, and training management.
Ideal Candidate Profile:
- Bachelor's degree in mechanical, chemical, nuclear engineering, or a related field from an accredited institution.
Registered Professional Engineer in Ontario, or eligible for registration within six months of employment. - Experience in managing engineering projects with substantial interfacing with other engineering disciplines.
- Familiarity with Quality Management Systems (CSA N286) and relevant quality standards (CSA N299).
- Experience in applying nuclear Codes and Standards related to waste management and environmental assessments.
- Knowledge of CSA N285.0, ASME Section III, CSA B51 Standard, ASME B31.1 code, and other applicable regulatory guidelines.
- Experience in the procurement, operation, and maintenance of waste management systems.
- A minimum of 10 years in heavy water and tritium management, waste management, and environmental protection.
- At least 5 years of experience in nuclear and/or CANDU technology.
- 3 or more years of experience in leading engineering teams.
- Experience in a licensed nuclear facility in Canada is advantageous.
- Site experience in construction or commissioning for nuclear or heavy industries is beneficial.
- Proven success in a multidisciplinary, dynamic project delivery environment.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
- Excellent organizational and time management abilities.
Additional Information:
- Willingness to travel to project sites as required.
- Security Clearance with Public Services and Procurement Canada is a prerequisite for employment.
