Key Responsibilities

  • Deliver expert technical guidance in hydrogeological modelling to assist geoscience teams and other departments within the organization for ongoing site assessments.
  • Offer strategic advice and insights into the planning and execution of hydrogeological data collection, analysis, and integration efforts.
  • Oversee hydrogeological flow and transport modelling initiatives, including the formulation of project plans, troubleshooting issues, and collaborating with various teams. Facilitate the development of contracts for hydrogeological data collection, modelling, and integration projects, which encompasses drafting and issuing procurement documents, assessing and selecting contractors, and overseeing contractor performance in terms of technical quality, budget adherence, and timelines.
  • Generate scientific reports and presentations as necessary, pertaining to geoscientific research and supporting documentation.
  • Engage in public outreach activities organized by the organization as needed.
  • Effectively communicate findings from geoscientific investigations to both technical and non-technical stakeholders through written and verbal means.
  • Ensure compliance with relevant regulations and adherence to the organization's safety protocols in all work activities and programs.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned.
  • Contribute to committees and task forces to conduct studies or implement work programs as required.
  • Represent the organization before governmental authorities, regulatory bodies, and legislative hearings as a subject matter expert in hydrogeological modelling when necessary.

Qualifications and Experience

  • A bachelor's degree in a relevant field such as geology, geophysics, geotechnical engineering, or civil engineering.
  • A minimum of 8 years of pertinent experience, particularly in quantitative hydrogeological modelling and analysis.
  • Proven expertise in developing methodologies for modelling variable density deep groundwater systems in both crystalline and sedimentary rock environments.
  • Demonstrated ability to integrate multi-disciplinary geoscientific data to assess groundwater movement, including geological model components and field hydraulic data.
  • Experience leading hydrogeological modelling projects in various geological settings, including planning, coordinating, and managing technical scopes and contracts.
  • Familiarity with relational hydrogeological databases, scientific visualization tools, and groundwater flow and solute transport modelling techniques.
  • Strong understanding of data quality assurance, quality control, and data management standards.
  • Experience in reviewing and authoring high-quality technical reports and journal articles related to hydrogeological modelling, as well as developing technical presentations.
  • Ability to collaborate effectively within a multi-disciplinary team and interact with external contractors.
  • Exceptional communication skills, both written and verbal.
  • Project management experience with the capability to facilitate work projects and liaise between diverse technical and non-technical colleagues.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Professional designation as P.Geo. or P.Eng. is an asset.
  • A Master's or Ph.D. degree with a focus on hydrogeological modelling is advantageous.
  • Knowledge and experience with ArcGIS and solute transport modelling software (e.g., HydroGeoSphere, MODFLOW, MT3D, MODPATH) are beneficial.
  • Ability to provide expert hydrogeological modelling support to enhance site understanding and facilitate the regulatory process for a Deep Geological Repository is considered an asset.
