Estimator Job Description

We are seeking an experienced Estimator to join our team at Summa Architectural & Structural Metal Inc. As an Estimator, you will play a crucial role in preparing estimates of labour and/or material costs for our construction projects.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Prepare detailed estimates of labour and material costs for construction projects
  • Operate CADD and other computer software systems to prepare estimates
  • Prepare estimates for general expenses and overheads
  • Provide economic feasibility studies and preliminary estimates for proposed projects
  • Prepare and submit estimate reports, quote sheets, and bid forms
  • Utilize quantity take-off procedures to ensure accurate estimates
  • Advise on tendering procedures and set up cost monitoring and reporting systems
  • Monitor and adjust contract expenditures to ensure project stays within budget
  • Liaise with engineers, architects, owners, contractors, and subcontractors to ensure accurate estimates and project timelines
  • Read and interpret blueprints, maps, drawings, and specifications to ensure accurate estimates
Requirements:
  • College/CEGEP education or equivalent experience
  • 1-2 years of experience in estimating or a related field
  • Strong knowledge of construction estimating principles and practices
  • Excellent communication and problem-solving skills
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and meet deadlines
