About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled and detail-oriented Maintenance Worker, Building to join our team at Shaarei Zion Community Centre. As a key member of our facilities team, you will be responsible for ensuring the upkeep and maintenance of our building, ensuring a safe and healthy environment for our staff, clients, and visitors.

Key Responsibilities
  • Sweeping and Cleaning: Sweep, mop, scrub, and wax hallways, floors, and stairs to maintain a clean and safe environment.
  • Waste Management: Empty trash cans and other waste containers, and ensure that all waste is disposed of properly.
  • Window and Surface Cleaning: Wash windows, interior walls, and ceilings to maintain a clean and tidy appearance.
  • Appliance Maintenance: Perform minor repairs on appliances to ensure they are functioning properly.
  • Grounds Maintenance: Water and tend to plants, lawns, and/or gardens to maintain a beautiful and welcoming outdoor space.
  • Bathroom Cleaning: Clean and disinfect bathrooms and fixtures to maintain a clean and hygienic environment.
  • Snow and Ice Removal: Clean snow and ice from walkways and parking areas to ensure safe access to our building.
Support for Persons with Disabilities
  • Physical Accessibility: Provides physical accessibility accommodations, such as ramps and elevators, to ensure equal access to our building.
  • Visual Accessibility: Provides visual accessibility accommodations, such as braille and screen readers, to ensure equal access to our building.
  • Auditory Accessibility: Provides auditory accessibility accommodations, such as transcription software and teletypewriters, to ensure equal access to our building.
  • Disability Support: Participates in government or community programs that support persons with disabilities, and provides awareness training to employees to create a welcoming work environment.
Support for Newcomers and Refugees
  • Settlement Support: Assists with immediate settlement needs of newcomers and refugees, such as housing, transportation, and childcare.
  • Labour Market Integration: Supports social and labour market integration of newcomers and refugees, such as facilitating access to community resources and language training.
  • Credential Recognition: Supports newcomers and refugees with foreign credential recognition, and offers mentorship programs to pair newcomers and refugees with experienced employees.
Support for Youth
  • Youth Employment: Participates in government or community programs that support youth employment, and offers on-the-job training tailored to youth.
  • Mentorship: Offers mentorship, coaching, and/or networking opportunities for youth, and provides awareness training to employees to create a welcoming work environment.
Support for Indigenous People
  • Cultural Competency: Develops and maintains relationships with indigenous communities, indigenous-owned businesses, and organizations, and provides cultural competency training to all employees.
  • Elder Support: Facilitates access to Elders who can offer support and guidance to Indigenous workers.
