About the Role

We are seeking a passionate and dedicated Educator to join our team as a Cree Language Teacher at the Elsie Fabian School in Fort McKay. The successful candidate will be responsible for developing and instructing the Cree language program, working closely with school staff, parents, and community members to promote the language and culture.

Key Responsibilities
  • Develop and implement a comprehensive Cree language program that aligns with the school's curriculum and standards.
  • Teach Cree language and culture classes to students in grades K-9.
  • Work with staff to integrate Cree language and culture into all subjects and classes.
  • Develop and maintain relationships with community members and parents to promote the language and culture.
  • Assess student progress and provide regular reports to parents and school administrators.
  • Participate in professional development opportunities to enhance teaching skills and knowledge of Cree language and culture.
Key Requirements
  • Valid Alberta Teaching Certificate.
  • Extensive knowledge of Cree language instruction and culture.
  • Fluency in Cree language, both written and oral.
  • Respect and understanding for Fort McKay traditions, values, and culture.
  • Enthusiasm, flexibility, and dedication to community language and culture revitalization.
  • Previous teaching experience and strong classroom management skills.
  • Experience working in a First Nations community, including knowledge of First Nations culture, traditions, and values.
