This is a full-time position, requiring availability from 7:00 am to 5:30 pm, with on-call duties.
We are looking for a Clinical Nurse Specialist to become part of our Anesthesia Preoperative Clinic team. This role involves providing high-quality care to patients, utilizing extensive clinical experience and knowledge to address the needs of a specific patient demographic. The ideal candidate will apply the Synergy Model for Care in practice, tailoring care to meet the unique needs of each patient and their family while serving as a resource for colleagues and a strong advocate for patient welfare. Responsibilities include:
- Delivering safe, reliable, and effective patient care independently through the nursing process
- Implementing the Synergy Model for Care to customize care for each patient and family
- Engaging in respectful and effective communication with patients, their families, and the healthcare team
- Accurately documenting the nursing process in the appropriate formats
- Incorporating patient and family input into care planning
- Assessing patient responses to care and modifying plans as necessary
- Identifying patient needs and advocating based on clinical knowledge
- Considering cultural differences in developing relationships with patients and families
Minimum Qualifications:
- Graduation from an accredited nursing program with at least 12 months of recent nursing experience or completion of a re-entry nursing program.
- Possession of a valid, active, unencumbered nursing license or temporary permit approved by the Georgia Licensing Board.
- BLS certification is required; ACLS may be necessary in specific departments.

With over 1,200 Emory Clinic and 440 private-practice physicians across 28 specialties, we work collaboratively to deliver comprehensive care and exceptional outcomes for our patients and their families.
The Anesthesia Preoperative Clinic (APC) employs evidence-based practices to ensure optimal pre-procedural care for our surgical and anesthesia teams. Our nurses collaborate closely with anesthesiologists and advanced practice providers to prepare patients for surgery. Responsibilities include conducting thorough assessments and providing essential pre-procedural education. Patients may be evaluated in person or via telehealth. Nurses also assist with blood draws, COVID testing, and EKGs as required. The clinic operates with 9 examination rooms and sees approximately 40 patients daily, with hours from 7 am to 5:30 pm, Monday through Friday, and is closed on weekends and holidays. The orientation period for new hires is 6 weeks.
