About the RoleCanadian Blood Services is seeking a Regular part-time Transport Specialist (Material Handler) to join our dynamic Logistics team.
The Logistics team plays a crucial role in supporting Canadian Blood Services by employing best practices to ensure the secure transportation of personnel, donors, equipment, blood products, and supplies. Our Transport Specialists do more than drive; in this position, you will assist in preparing booths, tables, and other equipment to ensure mobile donor events are fully operational in addition to transporting individuals and products essential to Canada's Lifeline.
Path to Success- Utilizing your experience in driving and transportation, you will ensure that blood and blood products are transported following safety protocols and maintained at the appropriate temperature. You will also ensure the safety of employees, donors, and/or volunteers traveling with you.
- Drawing on your knowledge of safe transportation practices and your attention to detail, you will conduct pre-trip inspections to confirm that equipment is in proper working order and accurately complete all necessary documentation.
- Leveraging your customer service abilities, you will assist the collections team by welcoming and helping donors schedule or reschedule appointments as needed.
- You will aid in establishing systems and Wi-Fi connections for mobile events by utilizing your familiarity with technology and your aptitude for learning new programs.
- Using your exceptional interpersonal and communication skills, you will collaborate with staff to carry and set up/dismantle equipment and supplies. You will also load and unload equipment and supplies at donor center locations and upon return to the center.
- Completion of high school diploma or equivalent.
- Must hold a valid unrestricted Class 4 BC driver's license and a clean commercial driver's abstract from within the last 30 days.
- A minimum of 24 months of verifiable professional driving experience as a commercial vehicle driver within the last 3 years.
- Basic computer skills and the ability to learn new systems and programs.
- A willingness to learn procedures in a regulated environment.
- Ability to communicate effectively in English; proficiency in a second language is considered an asset.

- Flexibility is required to accommodate assigned shifts, which may include days, evenings, weekends, and statutory holidays. Current shifts range from 4-7.5 hours, and overtime may be necessary. Schedules could vary throughout the week.
- Travel will be necessary to various locations. Additional coverage may be required as elected by the employee.
- Training for this role will take place in a designated training location.
- No long-haul or cross-border driving will be required.
- Physical capability to load, unload, push, and carry heavy clinic equipment and supplies, including stooping, kneeling, crouching, and lifting up to 50 lbs.
