About the Position
Canadian Blood Services is in search of a Regular part-time Transport Specialist (Material Handler) to join our dynamic Logistics team.
The Logistics team plays a crucial role in supporting Canadian Blood Services by employing best practices to guarantee the secure transportation of personnel, donors, equipment, blood products, and supplies. Our Transport Specialists do more than drive; in this role, you will assist in preparing booths, tables, and other equipment to ensure mobile donor events are fully operational, in addition to transporting individuals and products vital to Canada's Lifeline.
Key to Success
By utilizing your experience in driving and transportation, you will ensure that blood and blood products are transported in compliance with safety protocols and maintained at appropriate temperatures. You will also prioritize the safety of employees, donors, and/or volunteers traveling with you. Drawing on your understanding of safe transportation practices and your meticulous attention to detail, you will perform pre-trip inspections to confirm that equipment is functioning correctly and accurately complete all necessary documentation. Leveraging your customer service abilities, you will support the collections team by welcoming and assisting donors in booking or rescheduling appointments as needed. You will help establish systems and Wi-Fi connections for mobile events by utilizing your technological familiarity and eagerness to learn new programs. Using your exceptional interpersonal and communication skills, you will collaborate with staff to carry and set up/dismantle equipment and supplies. You will also load and unload equipment and supplies at donor center locations and upon return to the center.Desired Qualifications and Skills
Completion of high school diploma or equivalent. Must hold a valid unrestricted Class 4 BC driver's license and maintain a clean commercial driving record from within the last 30 days. A minimum of 24 months of verifiable professional driving experience as a commercial vehicle operator within the last 3 years. Basic computer skills and the ability to adapt to new systems and programs. A willingness to learn procedures in a regulated environment. Effective communication skills in English; proficiency in a second language is an asset.What We Offer

Flexibility is required to accommodate assigned shifts, which may include days, evenings, weekends, and statutory holidays. Current schedules range from 4-7.5 hours, with potential overtime. Shifts can start any time between 07:30-17:45 hours, with end times varying. Rest days may include combinations of Sunday/Monday, Monday/Tuesday, Tuesday/Wednesday, Wednesday/Thursday, Thursday/Friday, Friday/Saturday, or Saturday/Sunday. Overnight shifts may be necessary as elected by the employee. Travel will be necessary to various locations. Additional coverage may be required as elected by the employee. Training for this position will occur in a designated location for 2-3 weeks. No long-haul or cross-border driving will be required. Physical capability to load, unload, push, and carry heavy clinic equipment and supplies, including stooping, kneeling, crouching, and lifting up to 50 lbs, as well as pulling and pushing up to 136 kg (300 lbs.) on a wheeled platform.
