Heritage Park is Canada's largest living history museum, offering visitors a unique opportunity to experience life in Western Canada from the 1860s to the early 1950s. Position Summary:

Reporting to the Director of Fund Development, the Senior Fund Development Officer plays a pivotal role in enhancing the fundraising initiatives of Heritage Park. This position serves as the primary Major Gift Officer, managing a portfolio of major donors capable of contributing gifts exceeding $10,000. The officer will cultivate and nurture relationships with approximately 100 major donors annually, with an overarching fundraising target of $1,000,000 or more. This role involves strategic identification of potential donors, personalized engagement through various channels, and proactive solicitation to secure substantial financial support. It contributes to broader fundraising strategies aimed at achieving organizational financial objectives and fostering a culture of philanthropy within the Park.

Key Responsibilities:

Fundraising Strategy and Execution:

  • Develop and implement comprehensive fundraising strategies to identify, cultivate, solicit, and steward major gifts from individual, corporate, and foundation donors.
  • Prepare compelling proposals, presentations, and communication materials tailored to effectively engage major donors.
  • Monitor progress towards fundraising goals, analyze outcomes, and adapt strategies as necessary to optimize results.
  • Conduct research to evaluate potential donor capacity and suitability, identifying new opportunities for donor cultivation and solicitation.
  • Lead strategic planning and execution of comprehensive capital campaigns, ensuring alignment with organizational goals and priorities.
  • Oversee the fundraising coordinator, providing guidance and support in developing and implementing fundraising strategies.
  • Stay informed on philanthropic trends and best practices to enhance fundraising strategies and donor engagement efforts.

Donor Relationship Management:

  • Develop strategies to deepen relationships with donors, ensuring meaningful engagement and continued support.
  • Attend networking events and social engagements to cultivate and maintain relationships with prospective and existing donors.
  • Build and maintain strong, personalized relationships with prospective/current donors through regular communication and meetings.
  • Develop and implement recognition activities and provide excellent stewardship to major donors, expressing gratitude and ensuring their continued engagement.

People Leadership:

  • Support the Director of Fund Development in providing strategic direction to the team by implementing initiatives that align with the strategic business plan.
  • Ensure consistent alignment with organizational goals by setting fundraising objectives based on Heritage Park's strategic business plan and values.
  • Regularly assess and enhance staff performance through ongoing feedback, goal-setting, and professional development initiatives.

Organizational Excellence:

  • Contribute to inspiring experiences at the Park through your roles and responsibilities by engaging in Heritage Park initiatives that align with the overall mission and vision.
  • Demonstrate commitment to workplace health and safety by complying with Heritage Park's Health, Safety and Environment Management System (HSEMS).
  • Actively support a positive work environment through creating an atmosphere of inclusion, engagement, and fulfillment in line with Heritage Park values.

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in a relevant field (such as non-profit management, fundraising, communications, or business administration).
  • Minimum of 5 years' experience in fundraising with a proven track record for closing gifts at the $25K+ level.
  • Minimum 2 years' experience managing a team including delegation, change management, mentorship, and performance management.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills in a donor-facing setting.
  • Exceptional planning, organization, project management, prioritization, and time-management skills are required to manage multiple ongoing projects simultaneously.
