Transportation Technician/Journeyman Mechanic

South East Cornerstone Public School Division #209 is seeking a skilled Transportation Technician/Journeyman Mechanic to join our team at the Moosomin Bus Garage location.
Job Summary:The successful candidate will be responsible for performing day-to-day maintenance of bus and fleet vehicles, ensuring they are safe and reliable. This includes certifying the safety of buses, maintaining a clean and safe shop and grounds, and carrying out a preventative maintenance program for all division-owned vehicles.
Key Responsibilities:- Certify the safety of buses and ensure they are in good working condition
- Assist in maintaining a clean and safe shop and grounds
- Carry out a preventative maintenance program for all division-owned vehicles
- Do inventory of stock as required and recommend parts for ordering
- Assist in keeping equipment up-to-date to maintain buses and fleet vehicles
- Maintain a safe working environment that satisfies all rules and regulations
- Handle maintenance concerns regarding safe operation of buses or division vehicles
- Be prepared to meet emergency needs at times other than regular hours
- Upgrade skills where required to ensure proper maintenance procedures are used
- Conduct oneself in a manner appropriate to an educational institution that provides services to children
- Be willing to engage in lifelong learning with respect to training, in-service, and courses of study
- Be able to temporarily fill in for the Foreman when needed
- A Grade 12 diploma from a provincially recognized institution or equivalent
- A valid class 5 Driver's License
- A clean criminal record check and drivers abstract
- A Heavy duty Journeyperson's certification or equivalent experience in the automotive service industry
- Related training such as courses in first aid, defensive driving, or heavy equipment operation would be considered an asset
- Previous experience in the operation of a school bus would be considered an asset
- Knowledge of highway and school bus legislation and regulations would be considered an asset
- Current certification with SGI, Apply for School Buses
- Experience in computer diagnosis would be considered an asset
- Knowledge of equipment cleaning standards and procedures
Full benefit package, employer-matched defined benefit pension plan, salary range: $38.51 per hour to $44.78 per hour (ticketed)
