This role involves performing advanced restoration, renovation, and maintenance tasks within a designated skilled trade.
Responsibilities include conducting renovations, inspections, adjustments, installations, and repairs of buildings, utility systems, and stationary equipment, depending on the specific trade. You will also operate motorized equipment, requisition materials, and maintain accurate records.
Process documentation related to work orders, projects, and material requests.Additional responsibilities may include participating in disaster response efforts or supporting Continuity of Operations (COOP) initiatives, which may require flexible scheduling or location assignments.
This position may also offer opportunities for additional compensation for work performed in specialized environments.
Key Responsibilities:
Maintain regular attendance and may be required to work specific or rotating shifts, extended hours, or overtime as needed.
Conduct inspections, adjustments, and repairs in compliance with established codes and standards for various building systems, including doors, locks, and perimeter fencing.
Oversee the maintenance, testing, troubleshooting, and repair of fire alarm and sprinkler systems, as well as carpentry, painting, and electrical tasks to ensure optimal functionality.
Demonstrate proficiency in using hand tools and equipment during repairs or inspections. Assess work requirements and determine the most effective methods for maintenance and repair tasks.Execute renovations to modernize facilities or adapt them for new purposes. Design projects that adhere to relevant codes and standards, identifying necessary information such as timelines and materials. Ensure the availability of tools and personnel to complete tasks effectively. Conduct in-process inspections to verify quality.
Select appropriate materials for repairs and replacements, recognizing equipment failures and determining corrective actions.
Act as a lead on construction, maintenance, or repair projects, establishing work schedules, assigning staff, and overseeing necessary tasks.
Ensure safe and uninterrupted services to campus operations, identifying and addressing system issues as they arise.
Utilize hand tools, power tools, and safety equipment as required.
Accurately document and maintain records related to work orders, projects, and material requisitions.
Operate machinery such as backhoes and forklifts as necessary, demonstrating proper usage.
Provide training to others on maintenance procedures and methods, maintaining training records for staff.
Perform additional duties as assigned, including participation in disaster response and recovery efforts or COOP activation, which may require flexible scheduling or location assignments.
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Comprehensive understanding of building maintenance, repair, and operational systems.
Proficiency in various trades, including electronics, plumbing, electrical work, HVAC, and carpentry.
Familiarity with industrial safety regulations and standards.
Skilled in using hand tools, power tools, and testing equipment.
Ability to conduct preventative maintenance and inspections of facilities.
Competence in following instructions, estimating materials, and applying appropriate methods for building maintenance and repair.
Ability to interpret technical drawings and schematics.
Capability to organize and manage preventive maintenance programs.
Ability to supervise and guide the work of others.
Capacity to work independently or collaboratively within a team.
Strong interpersonal skills to foster positive relationships with co-workers and facility staff.
Problem-solving and decision-making abilities, demonstrating sound judgment.
Effective communication skills, both oral and written, to collaborate with maintenance and facility teams.
