Job Description

Job Summary:

We are seeking a highly skilled and dedicated Teacher: Student Support Specialist to join our team at York Region District School Board. The successful candidate will be responsible for providing support to students with special needs, developing and implementing individual education plans, and collaborating with colleagues to create a positive and inclusive learning environment.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide individualized support to students with special needs, including developing and implementing individual education plans
  • Collaborate with colleagues to create a positive and inclusive learning environment
  • Develop and implement strategies to support students with exceptionalities
  • Communicate effectively with students, parents, and colleagues to ensure student success
  • Participate in professional learning communities to stay current on best practices in special education

Requirements:

  • Minimum of three years of experience in special education and student support
  • Experience in collaborative support to students in the effective implementation of formative assessment and differentiated instruction
  • Positive school environment approaches to classroom management
  • Experience with Balanced Literacy Strategies
  • Experience in modeling and/or leading professional learning communities
  • Effective communication skills

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience in teaching in an ESL environment
  • Cross-cultural and/or northern teaching experience
  • Planning skills (lesson, theme, unit, year, and student support plans)
