Job Title: Ironworker

Aecon is seeking a skilled Ironworker to join our team in Edmonton, Sherwood Park, and Fort Saskatchewan. As an Ironworker, you will be responsible for installing and assembling structural steel components, such as beams, columns, and girders, to ensure the safe and efficient construction of buildings and infrastructure projects.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Read and interpret blueprints and specifications to lay out the work
  • Unload and stack steel units for hoisting and installation
  • Erect and install scaffolding, construction cranes, derricks, and other hoisting equipment
  • Assemble rigging (cables, pulleys, hooks) to move heavy equipment and materials
  • Attach cables from a crane or derrick and direct crane operators with hand signals or radios
  • Position steel units, align holes, and insert temporary bolts
  • Check the alignments and join steel parts by bolting or tack welding them with an electric arc process
  • Assemble and erect prefabricated metal structures
  • Select, cut, bend, position, and secure steel bars or wire mesh in concrete forms to reinforce the concrete
  • Install ornamental and other structural metalwork, such as curtain walls, metal stairways, railings, and power doors
  • Unload and install pre-cast components
Requirements:
  • 2-3 years' experience in interpretation of structural, architectural, engineering, and erection drawings
  • 2-3 years' experience in rigging, hoisting, lifting, and working with cranes
  • 2-3 years' experience in using pneumatic, electric, and hydraulic tools
  • 2-3 years' experience in industrial construction
  • Physical strength and stamina
  • Manual dexterity
  • A safety-conscious attitude
  • The ability to work with others in a team
  • Must be willing to work in remote job locations
Compensation and Benefits:
  • $45.33 - $50.00 hourly rate
  • Shift rotation to change per project requirements
  • 10 hours per day - hours flexible to change
  • Overtime is given at the rate of 1.5 times the employee straight time hourly rate after 8 hours per day or 40 hours per week
  • Overtime will be paid when an employee works on any regularly scheduled day off
  • All compensation and benefits will be in accordance with the Collective Agreement
  • 6% vacation and 4% statutory holiday pay will be provided in accordance with the Collective Agreement
Working Conditions and Environment:
  • Primary work location at site in Edmonton, Sherwood Park, and Fort Saskatchewan (and surrounding areas), Alberta
  • Repetitive movement
  • Able to perform in a fast-paced environment
  • Continuously changing work tasks
  • Ability to work a significant amount of hours throughout the day
  • Ability to lift and work with materials weighing up to 25kg
  • Ability to work in all weather conditions and environments
