POSITION OVERVIEW:

This role is a Regular Part-Time Support Staff Position, functioning within the School College Work Initiative (SCWI) and Academic Upgrading (AU) departments. The position entails 24 hours of work per week, primarily from October to June, with scheduled breaks during off periods.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

The primary focus of this position is to foster student success by delivering academic and program-related guidance to current, prospective, and at-risk students, emphasizing the significance of postsecondary education and ensuring a seamless transition into higher education.

  • Academic & Program Guidance: Assist students in navigating postsecondary program options, facilitate college/university applications, and support financial aid processes.
  • Support Services: Build trust with diverse learners, address challenges faced by School Within a College (SWAC) and Adult Dual Credit (ADC) students, collaborate with educators, and stay informed about community resources.
  • Administrative Services: Complete necessary reports for ADC and SWAC, manage application vouchers, educate students on postsecondary opportunities, and provide general office support.
  • Documentation: Maintain accurate records of student interactions and recommendations, ensuring thorough documentation of contact details.
  • Monitoring Progress: Evaluate academic performance and intervene as needed to enhance student outcomes.
  • Record Verification: Assist in verifying and updating student records for accuracy.
  • Information Delivery: Ensure timely and professional communication of accurate information to students and faculty.
  • Group Facilitation: Lead discussions on postsecondary options for student groups.
QUALIFICATIONS:
  1. A three-year diploma emphasizing human relations and interpersonal communication.
  2. A minimum of five years of relevant experience focusing on student or client interaction.
  3. Experience working with at-risk youth is essential.
  4. Familiarity with School College Work Initiative and secondary school academic policies.
  5. Exceptional organizational skills, capable of managing multiple tasks and deadlines.
  6. Ability to handle confidential information securely.
  7. Proven collaborative skills, both independently and as part of a team.
  8. Competence in applying an equity, diversity, inclusion, and belonging perspective to student scenarios.
  9. Strong problem-solving and analytical skills, with experience in high-pressure environments.
  10. Excellent interpersonal skills, capable of building rapport with students, staff, and faculty.
  11. Knowledge of Banner registration and scheduling systems is an asset.
  12. Experience in educational institutions and familiarity with SWAC programs is beneficial.
