Director, Business and Government Relations

Destinationone Consulting is seeking a seasoned professional to lead our client, the City of Surrey, in developing and implementing a strategic approach to engaging with the business community and all levels of government.

Key Responsibilities
  • Lead a team in developing and implementing a comprehensive economic development strategy, intergovernmental relations strategy, and Indigenous Relations Framework.
  • Build and maintain key relationships with government representatives, business leaders, and community organizations to advance the City's strategic priorities.
  • Provide strategic advice to the General Manager, Social Infrastructure and Community Investments, and the City Manager on economic development and government relations matters.
  • Develop and manage a registry of government funding programs and assist City departments in securing funding for eligible projects.
  • Track and report on emerging trends and policy developments at various levels of government and Indigenous organizations.
  • Build and maintain relationships with City departments to facilitate implementation of business development strategies.
  • Play a key leadership role in the Social Infrastructure and Community Investments department and with senior colleagues across the City to facilitate the implementation of key strategic priorities.
Requirements

The successful candidate will have a post-secondary degree (preferably at a Master's level) in a related field and 10+ years of progressively responsible professional experience related to government relations, economic development, and strategic program development.

They will possess excellent communications skills, solid organizational and strategic planning experience, and the ability to build and leverage robust networks to achieve ambitious goals.
