Job Summary

The Commonwealth of Virginia is seeking a highly skilled and experienced Social Services Manager III to join our team. As a key member of our Social Services Department, you will be responsible for managing a caseload of child protective services ongoing and foster care prevention cases, providing case management services to clients, and coordinating with community partners to ensure the best possible outcomes.

Key Responsibilities

  • Assess client needs and develop individualized case plans to address their social, economic, and health problems
  • Provide counseling and assistance to clients, including face-to-face interviews and home visits
  • Make referrals and coordinate services with community partners, including social services agencies, healthcare providers, and educational institutions
  • Conduct child protective services family assessments of child abuse and neglect complaints, as needed
  • Develop and maintain accurate and comprehensive records of client interactions and case progress
  • Provide rotating coverage for child welfare on-call, responding to after-hours phone calls and in-person requests as needed

Requirements

  • Graduation from an accredited college or university with a major in social work, human services, or a related field
  • Considerable local agency social work experience, with a strong understanding of social institutions and the methods of the helping process
  • Thorough knowledge of child abuse, policies, and procedures, as well as intervention and treatment techniques
  • Ability to communicate effectively with clients, colleagues, and community partners, and to establish effective working relationships
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team, with a strong commitment to providing excellent customer service

Working Conditions

This position requires the ability to work in a fast-paced environment, with frequent interruptions and deadlines. The successful candidate will be able to work effectively in a team setting, with a strong commitment to providing excellent customer service. The position may require working outside of normal business hours to accommodate the needs of clients.
