We are seeking a highly skilled and dedicated individual to join our team as an Assistant for Students who are Deaf or Hard of Hearing. This role is a critical part of our commitment to providing inclusive and accessible education to all students.
Key Responsibilities- Provide support to students who are deaf or hard of hearing in a variety of settings, including regular classes and partially integrated settings.
- Work closely with teachers of the deaf to develop, review, and implement Individual Education Plans (IEPs) for students.
- Deliver interventions and strategies as outlined in IEPs, and assist in the preparation of materials for programs.
- Assist with supervision of students, including during classroom activities, recess, lunch, excursions, and bus and taxi arrivals and departures.
- Provide personal and medical care to students, including administration of medication, feeding, dressing, toileting, clean catheterization, hygiene, lifting, and positioning, and assistance with mobility.
- Liaise between teachers of the deaf and regular teachers to address any issues arising in regular classes that may impact student progress.
- Assist with writing daily anecdotal reports, recording and reporting on student programs, and acting as a resource person for parent-teacher interviews.
- Work as an active member of the school team to ensure safety, success, and facilitated communication.
- Provide assistance with focused learning and notetaking services for students who are deaf or hard of hearing as needed.
- Attend meetings and professional development sessions as requested.
- Secondary School Graduation Diploma with two years of post-secondary education in a related discipline.
- Minimum one year of experience.
- Effective verbal and written communication and interpersonal skills.
- A general working knowledge of computers and Board-approved software.
