THE OPPORTUNITY

The Property Accounting team at Venterra is experiencing substantial growth in its responsibilities and its capacity to generate value throughout the organization. This team is strategically positioned to collaborate closely with Operations, Finance, Asset Management, Corporate Accounting, Accounts Payable, and Technology to enhance key business processes and provide actionable financial insights that create significant value for Venterra.

We seek an independent self-starter with a strong accounting background and a passion for technology, who places a high value on accountability and ownership of their work. The ideal candidate is enthusiastic about problem-solving and is comfortable navigating ambiguous requirements to implement process enhancements in existing workflows and generate value in new situations.

A crucial aspect of this role is the ability to act as a business partner who delivers outstanding customer service; this position necessitates the capacity to collaborate across functions to fulfill deliverables and drive change.

The role will report to the Manager, Property Accounting, who will continuously encourage the candidate to lead change, identify value-adding opportunities, and assume increasing levels of responsibility. As a member of the Property Accounting team, this candidate will play a key role in refining and transforming our accounting processes. This presents an exciting opportunity to implement impactful changes in our financial operations and ensure timely, accurate, and efficient month-end closings. You will work closely with cross-functional teams to pinpoint areas for improvement, develop innovative solutions, and implement best practices that optimize our accounting workflows and enhance business value.

KEY JOB RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Collaborate effectively with Operations, Finance, Asset Management, Corporate Accounting, Accounts Payable, and Technology to address property accounting inquiries and provide insights.
  • Comprehend business requirements to develop robust reports and/or financial models, focusing on automated data refresh and result validation.
  • Utilize SQL to explore and analyze financial data to deliver actionable insights; partner with the business to mitigate risks and seize identified opportunities.
  • Identify process inefficiencies and spearhead continuous improvement initiatives to optimize and enhance business performance.
  • Engage in a variety of high-impact initiatives, projects, and ad-hoc requests.

CANDIDATE PROFILE

  • CPA or CFA designation, or active pursuit of either designation required.
  • A minimum of 4 years of progressive experience in Accounting or FP&A.
  • Industry experience is considered a strong asset.
  • Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel and financial modeling is required, including the ability to extract and interpret large datasets, clean data using SQL/Excel formulas, and summarize data into concise actionable insights.
  • Experience with SQL is considered a strong asset.
  • Strong communication skills and excellent time management abilities.
  • A team-oriented mindset, with a high sense of accountability and ownership of work.
  • Comfortable leading through ambiguity and working independently to deliver on competing priorities.
  • Able to convey complex ideas in clear and digestible formats.
  • Attention to detail and the discipline to establish automated QA tests to ensure the accuracy of deliverables.
  • A passion for finance and accounting, coupled with a data-driven approach to decision-making.
  • A natural curiosity and enthusiasm for delving into details, acquiring new skills, and enhancing processes.
