This role is pivotal in supervising contractors' activities and ensuring the successful completion of both permanent and temporary access routes, earthworks, and structural projects. The Traffic Operations Specialist will oversee all contractor operations on-site, ensuring adherence to project safety, quality, and scheduling standards while fostering positive interactions with stakeholders and the public.
Key Responsibilities:
- Conducts engineering assignments related to construction, requiring comprehensive knowledge of industry practices.
- Monitors contractor activities to ensure compliance with technical project specifications.
- Prioritizes safety and the establishment of a secure work environment in all project phases.
- Reviews contractor documentation, including risk assessments and method statements, and participates in necessary inspections.
- Oversees contractor quality assurance processes and addresses any non-conformance issues.
- Collaborates with construction superintendents and contractors to plan effective construction methods and resolve issues.
- Interprets engineering designs and may create working drawings for contractor use.
- Prepares field sketches for modifications and maintains accurate 'as-built' documentation.
- Evaluates design and vendor drawings, addressing any potential conflicts.
- Tracks contractor quantities using relevant software systems.
- Reviews change notices and extra work orders.
- Implements project control tools on-site.
- Assists in cost estimation and reviews project materials for completeness.
- Maintains daily reporting on project progress.
- Verifies contractor payment applications.
- Reviews updated contractor schedules as necessary.
- Provides insights on constructability and lessons learned.
- May contribute to performance reviews of subordinate personnel.
- Ensures all necessary permits and licenses are secured before work commencement.
- Reviews and approves contractor submissions and technical documents.
- Ensures compliance of materials and equipment with international standards.
- Facilitates a systematic and thorough project closure process.
- Maintains effective relationships with various departments and coordinates contractual activities on-site.
- Facilitates coordination and communication among contractors during site meetings.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in engineering, construction management, or a related field.
- Minimum of 6 years of experience in logistics and transportation management within the construction sector.
- Familiarity with traffic analysis software and statistical packages is advantageous.
- Proficient in data analysis and scripting languages.
- Knowledge of GIS and transportation planning concepts is beneficial.
- Strong understanding of the Ontario transportation landscape.
- Excellent negotiation and communication abilities.
- Proficient in construction project management software.
- Awareness of safety protocols in construction.
- Familiarity with Ontario road construction standards.
- Experience managing Temporary Traffic Control Zones.
- Ability to maintain positive working relationships with clients, contractors, and stakeholders.
- Self-motivated with a capacity for independent work and sound judgment.
- Understanding of environmental compliance regulations.
- Knowledge of current industry quality standards.
