About the Role

Cascadia Windows & Doors is seeking a highly skilled Safety Officer to join our Construction Services Team. As a key member of our team, you will be responsible for ensuring the health and safety of our staff in the workplace.

Key Responsibilities
  • Conduct regular site visits to review safe practices and identify potential hazards.
  • Compile and maintain safety programs, documents, and registers to ensure compliance with regulations.
  • Hold regular Toolbox meetings to share best practices and promote a culture of safety.
  • Implement and maintain health and safety standards, including risk assessments and preventative measures.
  • Establish and maintain a cordial and professional relationship with employees, promoting a culture of safety and respect.
  • Maintain compliance with all safety regulations, including OSHA and EPA guidelines.
  • Conduct regular staff meetings to share best practices and promote a culture of safety.
  • Standardize health and safety procedures to ensure consistency across the organization.
  • Identify and dispose of hazardous waste correctly.
  • Promote safety initiatives and provide training to employees and executives.
  • Compile and maintain relevant registers to ensure compliance with regulations.
  • Document staff information, minutes of meetings, and reports compiled for management.
  • Regularly inspect equipment and premises to identify potential hazards.
  • Support the development of OHS policies and programs.
  • Advise and instruct on various safety-related topics, including noise levels and use of machinery.
  • Conduct risk assessments and enforce preventative measures.
  • Review existing policies and measures and update them according to legislation.
  • Initiate and organize OHS training for employees and executives.
  • Inspect premises and the work of personnel to identify issues or non-conformity.
  • Stop any unsafe acts or processes that seem dangerous or unhealthy.
  • Record and investigate incidents to determine causes and handle worker's compensation claims.
  • Prepare reports on occurrences and provide statistical information to upper management.
Requirements
  • A bachelor's degree or an associate degree.
  • Valid competency certificates.
  • Registration as a Health and Safety Officer.
  • Strong communication skills.
  • Minimum of 3 years experience in this position.
  • Proficient in all Microsoft Applications.
  • Proven experience as a safety officer.
  • In-depth knowledge of legislation (e.g. OSHA/EPA) and procedures.
  • Knowledge of potentially hazardous materials or practices.
  • Experience in writing reports and policies for health and safety.
  • Familiarity with conducting data analysis and reporting statistics.
  • Proficient in MS Office; Working knowledge of safety management information systems is a plus.
  • Outstanding organizational skills.
  • Diligent with great attention to detail.
  • Excellent communication skills with the ability to present and explain health and safety topics.
  • BSc/BA in safety management, engineering or a relevant field is preferred.
  • Certificate in occupational health and safety.
