Job Summary

We are seeking an experienced Executive Director to lead our organization, someone with a passion for social justice, a vision for creating positive change, and a commitment to our values of compassion, professionalism, and community engagement.

Key Responsibilities
  • Leadership
    • Develop and implement a strategic plan to guide the organization's vision and mission
    • Collaborate with the Board of Directors to identify and address internal and external issues affecting the organization
    • Act as a professional advisor to the Board on all aspects of the organization's activities
    • Foster effective teamwork between the Board and staff
    • Represent the organization at community events and activities to enhance our profile
  • Operational Planning and Management
    • Develop and implement a strategic and operational plan to achieve the organization's goals and objectives
    • Ensure the efficient and effective day-to-day operation of the organization
    • Collaborate with partner organizations to manage the Kingston's Integrated Care Hub
    • Draft and implement policies, procedures, and guidelines for the organization
  • Program Planning and Management
    • Oversee the planning, implementation, and evaluation of programs and services
    • Develop evaluation tools and ensure client feedback is integral to the process
    • Ensure programs and services align with the organization's mission and priorities
    • Monitor the delivery of programs and services to maintain or improve quality
  • Human Resources Planning and Management
    • Determine staffing requirements and recruit, interview, and select employees
    • Implement human resources policies, procedures, and practices
    • Establish a positive, healthy, and safe work environment
    • Provide orientation and training for staff and volunteers
    • Implement a performance management process for staff
  • Financial Planning and Management
    • Work with the Board and staff to prepare a comprehensive budget
    • Research funding sources and develop fund-raising plans
    • Secure adequate funding for the organization
    • Administer the organization's funds according to the approved budget
    • Provide regular reports to the Board on revenues and expenditures
  • Community Relations and Advocacy
    • Communicate with stakeholders, funders, and community partners
    • Establish relationships with community groups, funders, and policymakers
  • Risk Management
    • Identify and evaluate risks to the organization's people, property, finances, goodwill, and image
    • Implement measures to control risks and ensure adequate insurance
Requirements
  • Five or more years of progressive leadership experience in a not-for-profit organization, with at least five years in the HIV sector
  • Three years as an Executive Director preferred
  • Degree in a related field or equivalent combination of education and experience
  • In-depth knowledge of Ontario's HIV/AIDS Strategy to 2026
  • Working knowledge of the Ontario Accord and GIPA/MEPA/MEWA principles
  • Working knowledge of Ontario's community-based HIV service delivery model and key populations affected by HIV
  • Commitment to social justice and harm reduction principles
  • Excellent human resource management experience and supervisory skills
  • Understanding of funding proposals and grant writing
  • Experience in client-centered support services and programs
  • Understanding of policy governance and fundraising initiatives
  • Strong commitment to partnership, collaboration, and cooperative working relationships
  • Demonstrated interpersonal and communication skills
  • Flexibility to work as required for business meetings, client events, and agency events
  • Demonstrated commitment to intersectionality and anti-racist, anti-oppression practices
  • Valid G driver's license, insurance, or access to a vehicle
  • Demonstrated ability to coach, mentor, supervise, and motivate staff and volunteers
