Your Opportunity:
Alberta Health Services (AHS) presents a remarkable opportunity for a Facilities Maintenance and Engineering (FM&E) Supervisor to lead our operations in Red Deer. This pivotal role encompasses both management and technical oversight in the upkeep and functionality of our healthcare facilities, including infrastructure, equipment, and grounds. Ideal candidates will possess a strong background in mechanical or power engineering, hold a Red Seal Journeyman certification in a relevant trade, or have equivalent experience with extensive knowledge of building systems and maintenance protocols. The position is primarily based out of the RDRHC, with responsibilities extending to various facilities within Red Deer. We are looking for individuals with a solid technical grasp of maintenance and operational needs for systems such as medium and high voltage (25kV) distribution, essential power generation, fire and life safety systems, and security monitoring devices. Exceptional interpersonal and communication skills are essential, as the role involves collaboration with stakeholders and contractors, alongside mentoring a dedicated team. The portfolio includes management of electrical, architectural, plumbing, and clinical equipment. Key Responsibilities:
The Facilities Maintenance & Engineering (FM&E) Manager plays a crucial leadership role within the FM&E and Capital Management portfolio, reporting directly to the FM&E Area Director. Responsibilities include:
- Implementing strategic initiatives and providing frontline leadership for departmental activities aligned with the vision and mission of Alberta Health Services.
- Evaluating, executing, and integrating resources to support departmental functions.
- Making critical decisions and leading efforts to achieve departmental goals.
- Conducting precise fiscal management and reporting for annual and future budgets, encompassing salaries, supplies, and contracted services.
- Overseeing internal and external project management across various operational and capital-funded scopes of work.
- Developing internal and external partnerships through effective communication.
Required Qualifications:
Candidates must possess a Professional Engineer/Engineering Technologist designation in the electrical discipline or be a Journeyperson Electrician. A valid class 5 Alberta Driver's license is required. Proficiency in interpreting and applying Codes, Regulations, and Standards is essential. Candidates should be comfortable working in a computerized environment and familiar with Computerized Maintenance Management Systems. The ability to read and interpret blueprints and specifications is also necessary. A demonstrated commitment to professional and personal development, along with proven management and planning skills in maintaining compliance within a healthcare facility, is expected.
Preferred Qualifications:
A minimum of ten (10) years of experience in an accredited healthcare setting in a leadership capacity within a Facility Maintenance & Engineering program is preferred. Candidates should have a solid understanding of the maintenance and operational requirements for systems including high-pressure steam, boilers, water treatment (both closed loop and domestic), medical gases, HVAC systems, and emergency generating systems. Managerial or financial education and experience, along with a Certified Facility Manager (CFM) designation, are advantageous.
