Senior Infrastructure Materials Specialist

We are seeking a highly skilled Senior Infrastructure Materials Specialist to join our Specialist Technology, Analysis and Research (STAR) team at Arup. As a national expert on infrastructure materials, particularly steel and concrete, you will be supported by other practitioners in the region and a global network of experts.
The successful candidate will have a strong background in materials engineering for infrastructure projects, with a focus on durability design strategies for steel and reinforced and unreinforced concrete. Proficiency with relevant Canadian and USA standards, as well as knowledge of materials specifications, is essential. Additionally, the ideal candidate will have knowledge of sustainability impacts of reinforced concrete and steel over their lifecycle, and be familiar with embodied carbon reduction strategies and related performance impacts.
Key Responsibilities- Provide specialist advice on durability design, problem investigation, specification writing and review, materials decarbonization strategies, and other related tasks.
- Conduct research projects, including in partnership with industry and/or academia, to advance knowledge and expertise in infrastructure materials.
- Collaborate with project teams to develop and implement materials-related solutions.
- Develop and maintain expertise in particular materials to suit individual interests and complement existing expertise within the team.
- Contribute to the development of technical, project management, asset management, and business development skills.
- Minimum five years relevant industry experience.
- At least a master's degree in a relevant subject, such as civil, structural or materials engineering, preferred but not required.
- P. Eng. qualification preferred but not required.
- Practical knowledge of concrete condition assessment and repair.
- Knowledge of material characterization and testing.
- Knowledge of construction techniques and experience on a construction site.
- Supply chain experience or experience in material R&D.
- Knowledge in 3D concrete printing or other advanced construction methods.
- Knowledge of or interest in other materials and their use in the built environment, such as non-ferrous metals, masonry, glass, stone, or ceramics.
