Job Summary

The Advanced Practice Nurse (APN) in Medically Complex Unit is a registered nurse in the extended class (Nurse Practitioner –Adult) from the College of Nurses of Ontario (CNO) with the advanced education and specialized skills/knowledge to provide clinical care grounded in evidence-based standards for the hospitalized patients in the Medically Complex Unit, St. Peter's Hospital.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide clinical care to patients with complex medical conditions, working autonomously and in collaboration with physicians and the interdisciplinary team.
  • Develop and implement care plans, including assessment, diagnosis, and treatment, in accordance with evidence-based standards.
  • Conduct research and program development to improve patient outcomes and advance nursing practice.
  • Lead and participate in interprofessional teams to promote patient-centered care and improve patient safety.
  • Collaborate with consultants and other healthcare professionals to ensure comprehensive care.
Requirements
  • Current Certification of Registration with the College of Nurses of Ontario as a Registered Nurse, Extended Class with Nurse Practitioner (Adult).
  • Master's Degree in Nursing and/or equivalent graduate degree.
  • Minimum of five (5) years recent clinical experience supporting a population of acute medical/surgical patients; gerontology background preferred.
  • Demonstrated experience in research and program development.
  • Demonstrated excellent interpersonal and communication skills, and competency to work within interprofessional teams.
  • Demonstrated leadership and critical thinking skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to promote professional development in nursing.
  • Eligible for Faculty appointment with McMaster University.
