Job Title: Academic Advising Specialist

At Tyndale University, we are seeking a highly skilled Academic Advising Specialist to join our team. As a key member of our Centre for Academic Excellence, you will play a vital role in supporting the academic success of our students.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Oversee daily operations of academic advising in the Centre, ensuring seamless support for students.
  • Design and implement academic advising systems to improve student outcomes, including progress reports, appointments, and follow-up on concerns.
  • Collaborate with faculty to develop best practices in academic advising, promoting student success and academic excellence.
  • Advise, monitor, and approve course registration for students at risk, providing personalized support to ensure their academic goals are met.
  • Investigate and respond to individual academic concerns presented by faculty or staff, demonstrating a commitment to student well-being.
  • Develop and deliver seminars to the student community, promoting academic success and career development.
  • Participate in orientation activities and campus-wide events, fostering a sense of community and academic engagement.
  • Recommend and train students on useful study strategies, empowering them to achieve their academic goals.
  • Oversee and administer learning style inventories, providing valuable insights to inform academic support.
  • Build strategies to help students achieve academic success, working closely with faculty and staff to ensure a supportive learning environment.
  • Manage the Academic Advising and Career Services website, ensuring accurate and up-to-date information for students.
  • Collaborate with Centre for Academic Excellence staff to improve academic support campus-wide, promoting a culture of excellence and student success.
Requirements:
  • Undergraduate degree from a post-secondary program.
  • Preferred: Degree or diploma in English, Communications, or Psychology.
  • Physical and/or mental health first aid certification, preferred.
  • Career Development Practitioner (CDP) certification, preferred.
  • 2 years related experience.
  • Ministry or counselling experience, preferred.
  • Knowledge of Tyndale policies and programs, preferred.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office.

  • Excellent organizational, time management, and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, both oral and written.
  • Excellent customer service skills.
  • Ability to take initiative and work in a deadline-oriented, multitasking environment.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and act with diplomacy, tact, and professionalism.
Salary Range:

$45,000 to $48,000
