**Job Summary**

The Medical Laboratory Assistant plays a vital role in the laboratory's sample triaging, accessioning, and processing of specimens. This position requires a high level of attention to detail and the ability to work independently and as part of a team.

**Key Responsibilities**

  • Assist in the processing of specimens, including phlebotomy and sample preparation.
  • Perform routine procedures according to established protocols.
  • Maintain a safe environment in accordance with professional and provincial guidelines.
  • Ensure compliance with quality assurance programs and maintain standards put forth by Accreditation.
  • Perform other related duties as required.

**Requirements**

  • Previous related experience is preferred.
  • Completed Grade 12 or equivalent, Manitoba Standards, is required.
  • Completion of a Medical Laboratory Assistant program is preferred.
  • Canadian Society for Medical Laboratory Science (CSMLS) Medical Laboratory Assistant Certification is preferred.

**Preferred Qualifications**

  • Windows computer environment required.
  • Microsoft Office programs preferred.
  • Medical terminology preferred.
  • Sterile techniques and routine practices preferred.
  • 50 – 55 w.p.m. key-boarding skills are an asset.
  • Ability to apply basic math concepts such as fractions, percentages, and ratios.
  • Effective oral and written communication skills in English are required.
  • Ability to work under pressure and maintain confidentiality.
  • Fluent language skills (written and oral) in both French and English may be required.
