Unit Overview
The Juravinski Hospital and Cancer Center (JHCC) caters to over 1.7 million residents in Central West Ontario. It encompasses the Juravinski Cancer Centre (JCC), an esteemed academic institution that manages more than 7500 new cancer cases annually. The JCC offers specialized consultation, assessment, treatment, follow-up, and urgent care services for cancer patients and their families. Comprehensive programs in systemic and radiation therapy, surgical oncology, malignant hematology, and supportive care are available.
The Clinical Trials division at the JCC is a globally recognized oncology research program, engaging in all phases of therapeutic, supportive care, and non-therapeutic studies. Personnel involved in clinical trials are vital members of the multidisciplinary team, aiding in patient recruitment and participation in research initiatives. Clinical and translational research is fundamental to JCC's mission of pioneering advanced cancer treatments.
Position Overview
Reporting to the Director of Integrated Cancer Treatment Services and collaborating with the Clinical Trials leadership team, the Manager of Clinical Trials is tasked with overseeing daily operations and staff within the Clinical Trials division. This role ensures that appropriate facilities and qualified personnel are available to support a centralized research model that accommodates numerous academic and industry-sponsored studies across various disease sites within the Cancer Program.
The Manager will assess staffing and training needs for studies and project future personnel requirements. This position is responsible for cultivating an environment that encourages staff engagement and development, fostering a performance-driven culture focused on continuous quality improvement, and implementing enhancements that promote growth and excellence in trials.
Additionally, the Manager will collaborate with the team to ensure the successful management of all administrative systems within the research unit, engage with internal and external sponsors and organizations, liaise with physician researchers and research administration, and guarantee the delivery of high-quality clinical research services in compliance with all relevant regulations and legislation.
This role will be pivotal in advancing strategic initiatives that align the clinical trials division with the broader institutional mission, ensuring the seamless integration of innovative research into clinical practice to improve patient outcomes and maintain HHS's leadership in integrated cancer research.
Work Schedule
Monday - Friday, Daytime Hours
Qualifications
1. Bachelor's degree in Business Administration or equivalent (Master's degree preferred).
2. Clinical Research Associate certification is preferred.
3. Significant recent experience in a clinical academic research or university research environment.
4. A minimum of 5 years of demonstrated leadership and management experience, providing guidance and support to Clinical Trials team members or in a similar multidisciplinary setting.
5. Proven results-oriented mindset.
6. Clinical knowledge and experience in oncology is advantageous.
7. Comprehensive understanding of research regulations, guidelines, ethical requirements, policies, procedures, and practices acquired through formal education, certification, or equivalent experience.
8. Familiarity with budgeting processes and the ability to analyze financial and service data.
9. Strong emotional intelligence and interpersonal skills.
10. Excellent critical thinking abilities and the capacity to work independently as well as collaboratively.
11. High-level analytical skills to evaluate situations and data for both daily operations and long-term strategic planning.
12. Proven experience in applying continuous quality improvement and change management methodologies.
13. Demonstrated workforce management skills, including recruitment, health and safety, performance management, and unionized labor relations.
