As the Senior Legal Counsel for Technology and Privacy, you will offer strategic guidance to management on corporate/commercial agreements, vendor contracts, business strategies, data management, privacy issues, technology, and associated compliance and risk matters. You will collaborate closely with the VP of Legal and Compliance to support various business functions, including fintech, privacy, data governance, and compliance, as well as corporate/commercial contracts.
Key Responsibilities:
Deliver strategic legal advice to senior management regarding company strategies, products, processes, and risks, particularly in data, technology, and privacy domains. Work alongside internal teams and external partners to ensure technology transactions align with business goals while mitigating legal risks. Draft and negotiate legal agreements between the company and its clients across various business lines, manage a designated caseload, and oversee external legal counsel when necessary. Provide ongoing counsel regarding new legislation or modifications to existing regulations that may impact the organization. Offer continuous guidance on strategic business matters and the legal implications of current and proposed products and services. Mentor and support other members of FCT's legal team. Execute assigned tasks effectively while identifying and implementing strategies to minimize risk, optimize costs, and enhance client experiences, all while considering FCT's contractual obligations.Qualifications:
Active member of the Law Society of Ontario or another provincial law society (ideally with 5 to 8 years of experience). Expertise in data management, data governance, technology law, privacy, fintech, and related financial services. Proficient in drafting, preparing, and negotiating large-scale Master Service Agreements (MSAs) and Statements of Work (SOWs) in the commercial sector, particularly in financial services. Ability to provide pragmatic, business-oriented legal advice in a dynamic, fast-paced environment, demonstrating professionalism and sound business judgment. Experience in leading legal management of internal business relationships across departments and client expectations, particularly in engaging with lender clients directly. Strong negotiation and drafting capabilities. Self-motivated with a robust work ethic and a proactive approach. Adaptability to change and the ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced setting. High level of accuracy and thoroughness in completing assignments.
