Qualifications and Requirements

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Diabetes Nurse Educator to join our team at Island Health. The successful candidate will have a strong background in nursing and a proven track record of working with Indigenous peoples and communities.

The ideal candidate will have a minimum of three years' recent related experience, including experience in the care of diabetes and group teaching. They will also have a demonstrated understanding of Indigenous health approaches, protocols, and cultural issues.

The successful candidate will be responsible for providing culturally sensitive services to the Indigenous populations of Southern Vancouver Island. They will work as a member of an interdisciplinary team to plan, organize, and evaluate patient care.

The ideal candidate will possess excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively with a variety of internal and external contacts. They will also have a valid BC Driver's License.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide culturally sensitive diabetes education and care to Indigenous patients
  • Work collaboratively with healthcare teams to develop and implement patient care plans
  • Assess learning needs of Indigenous patients and develop individualized education plans
  • Deliver group education sessions on diabetes management and self-care
  • Participate in quality improvement initiatives to improve patient outcomes
