Job Summary

The York Region District School Board is seeking a highly skilled Human Resources Advisor to support the delivery of human resource services in support of instructional and non-instructional staff. As a key member of the HR team, you will serve as a primary point of contact to administration and staff in a variety of functional areas with emphasis on recruitment and selection, onboarding, employee and labour relations, attendance management, workplace accommodation, reporting, and general HR support.

Key Responsibilities
  1. Collaborate with the Superintendent of Human Resources to support recruitment and retention across all educational and corporate services.
  2. Administer and monitor absence management, ensuring compliance with relevant policies and procedures.
  3. Participate in the creation of workplace accommodations and gradual return to work programs, promoting a safe and inclusive work environment.
  4. Provide recruitment and onboarding services, ensuring a seamless transition for new employees.
  5. Participate in workplace investigations, maintaining confidentiality and objectivity.
  6. Work closely with hiring managers and Superintendents to ensure staff are meeting job expectations through the employee performance management processes and policies.
  7. Assist in evaluating and applying corrective disciplinary measures when necessary, upholding the Board's code of conduct.
  8. Develop and maintain a close working relationship with the leadership of 4 collective groups and out of scope personnel, fostering positive labour relations.
  9. Assist in administering and updating the Human Resource Information System, ensuring accurate and timely data management.
  10. Stay knowledgeable of administrative procedures and collective bargaining agreements, applying policies appropriately to support the Board's operations.
  11. Edit job descriptions as applicable, ensuring clarity and accuracy.
  12. Create employment contracts occasionally, ensuring compliance with relevant laws and regulations.
  13. Develop and analyze a variety of HR-related metrics, providing insights to inform strategic decision-making.
Requirements

To be successful in this role, you will require:

  • A diploma in Human Resources Management, organizational management, or equivalent.
  • 3-5 years of related human resources experience, with a strong understanding of HR principles and practices.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build strong relationships with staff, administration, and external stakeholders.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to interpret data and make informed decisions.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment, prioritizing tasks and managing multiple projects simultaneously.
Working Conditions

This is a full-time position, working 7.5 hours per day. The division office is located in Yorkton, a growing community with a range of recreational opportunities. The position involves working in an office environment, with occasional travel to other locations as required.
