Director of Next Generation Ministries

Appointment Method: Recommended by the Senior Pastor, confirmed by the Elders.
Accountability: The Director of Next Generation Ministries reports directly to the Senior Associate Pastor regarding daily leadership and overall ministry strategy. Ultimately, they are accountable to the Senior Pastor and, through the Senior Pastor, to the Board of Elders. A yearly ministry plan must be submitted prior to the fall kick-off and will be evaluated annually based on this job description and the submitted ministry plan.
Status: Permanent Full-time (40 hours per week)
Compensation: Salary and benefits determined by the Board and reviewed annually.
Collaborates with: Pastoral Staff, Office Staff, Board, and Congregation.
Supervision: Provides guidance and direction to lay volunteers as appropriate.
Qualifications:
The Director of Next Generation Ministries plays a pivotal role in shaping both the current and future generations within the church. It is essential that they are a professional leader with a solid grasp of Christian faith and doctrine, capable of articulating the gospel in a clear, relevant, and contextual manner. The following qualifications are preferred:
- Ability to connect effectively with youth while upholding the standards of a leader and role model.
- Exemplifies an active and growing Christian faith, character, lifestyle, and testimony.
- Firmly adheres to evangelical Baptist theology and is committed to championing the Doctrines, Covenants, Mission, and Core Values of City Centre Baptist Church.
- Demonstrates strong skills in leadership, communication, and interpersonal engagement.
- Exhibits a compassionate heart for individuals and a passion for outreach. Relates well across diverse cultures and generations.
- Spiritually mature; a collaborative team player; an accountable servant-leader with a teachable attitude.
- Theological accreditation, preferably at the Bible College level.
Summary:
The Director of Next Generation Ministries leads the ministry aimed at this vital and transitional generation within the church. In alignment with the overall Ministry Plan and in collaboration with the Leadership Team, this individual will advocate for the outreach, teaching, and discipleship of young people through the gospel of Christ. By balancing a strong Biblical foundation with dynamic, relational engagement, the Director will strive to effectively contextualize ministry for Junior & Senior High, High School, and College and Career-aged individuals within the congregation and community.
Specific Responsibilities
- Junior & Senior High – Ages 13-18 (60%)
The Director will develop, implement, and assess a comprehensive strategy to enhance the ministry for students at City Centre. This includes:
- Identifying, adapting, and teaching a curriculum tailored to the specific spiritual needs of young people.
- Leading weekly meetings for each youth group, overseeing both worship and social components of the ministry.
- Demonstrating availability and enthusiasm for ministry through proactive, creative, and contemporary methods, including responsible social media use and dedicated in-person engagement.
- Encouraging the formation of small groups within the Youth Ministry, aligning with the church's overall small group strategy.
- Designing and planning impactful seasonal events for outreach and spiritual development.
- Maintaining an active awareness of church members and attendees with children in this age group.
- Being familiar with the life events of youth and their families, providing biblical support and encouragement, and conducting home visitations as appropriate in coordination with the Director.
- Recruiting, screening, training, and mentoring lay leaders, personally overseeing their growth, development, and performance.
The College & Careers group operates primarily as a self-directed ministry for young adults at City Centre. The Director will provide leadership and direction for this group, which includes:
- Actively engaging in the discipleship of young adults, focusing on developing a Biblical worldview and integrating faith with life.
- Collaborating with lay leaders of the College & Careers Group to establish vision, ministry goals, and select appropriate Biblically-based curriculum that challenges the group's thinking and facilitates deep engagement with theological issues in a culturally relevant manner.
- Attending weekly meetings of the group; guiding and directing the planning and execution of seasonal events and/or retreats.
- Assessing the effectiveness of the ministry and providing constructive feedback as needed.
- Encouraging connections between the College & Careers Group and the broader congregation through service and relationship-building.
- General Duties (5%)
Depending on individual gifting, the Director may also participate in other general responsibilities as required and in consultation with the Senior Associate Pastor.
