Job Title: Child Life Specialist

Job Summary:

We are seeking a highly skilled Child Life Specialist to join our team at Fraser Health. The successful candidate will be responsible for planning, initiating, and monitoring daily activities designed to further the social, emotional, intellectual, and physical development of children and adolescents on an assigned unit.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Plan and implement daily activities to promote social, emotional, intellectual, and physical development of children and adolescents.
  • Liaise with members of the interdisciplinary team to ensure patient treatment plans are carried out and reinforced during play periods.
  • Observe, record, and report relevant information on patients' behavior, development levels, individual needs, and adjustment to hospital environment.
  • Provide education to patients and parents through orientation programs, research, and documentation.
  • Coordinate and allocate work to volunteer staff assigned to the area.
  • Participate in the development of operational policies and procedures.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree in a related field such as Child and Youth Care, Child Development, Psychology, Special Education, or Family Studies.
  • One year's recent related experience or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.
  • Eligible for membership with Child Life Council or the Canadian Association of Child Life Leaders.
  • Completion of Child Life Certification.

Skills and Abilities:

  • Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing.
  • Ability to work independently and as a member of a multi-disciplinary team.
  • Ability to develop and maintain effective working relationships with others.
  • Ability to plan, organize, and prioritize work in a continuously changing environment.

Working Environment:

The successful candidate will work in a fast-paced hospital environment and will be required to work independently and as part of a team. The ideal candidate will have excellent communication and interpersonal skills and be able to work effectively with children, adolescents, and families.
