About the Role

The City of Brampton is seeking a highly skilled and experienced Municipal Solicitor to join our team. As a key member of our Legal Services Division, you will provide expert legal advice and representation to the Corporation and its departments.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide Legal Advice: Offer written and oral legal and procedural advice to Council, staff, and committees, as well as other stakeholders as required.
  • Review and Draft Documents: Review and draft contracts, agreements, and other legal documents related to land development, commercial matters, and taxation.
  • Conduct Due Diligence: Conduct due diligence reviews, searches, and prepare required documentation for transactions involving the acquisition, disposal, and expropriation of property, including leases and related documents.
  • Represent the Corporation: Represent the Legal Services Division in its relations with other City departments and external parties, and undertake special projects and initiatives in furtherance of the Corporation's legal direction and strategic objectives.
Requirements
  • Education: Law degree and call to the Ontario Bar, with demonstrated interest in municipal and real estate, commercial, and development law.
  • Experience: 3-5 years of related work experience, preferably in the municipal field, with a minimum of 5 years of experience in municipal or planning law.
  • Skills and Assets: Exceptional communication skills, superior report writing, ability to prepare arguments and successfully negotiate resolutions, and computer proficiency in MS Office suite software and online legal research.
