Perinatal Nurse

Fraser Health is seeking a highly skilled and compassionate Registered Nurse to join our Perinatal team. As a Perinatal Nurse, you will provide direct patient care to childbearing patients and their families during the intra, postpartum and high-risk antepartum periods.
Key Responsibilities- Conduct comprehensive nursing assessments of patients and unborn babies on admission and at regular intervals.
- Allocate patients to appropriate care areas within the Maternal Program.
- Assess patient and collect information from various sources using skills of observation, communication, data review, and physical assessment.
- Make nursing diagnoses of patient and unborn baby's condition, identify risk factors, and determine appropriate nursing interventions.
- Initiate emergency care for patients/fetuses/newborns in crisis and transfer patients/newborns to the most appropriate care area.
- Collaborate with patients and their families/support persons, physicians, and members of the inter-professional care team in the development, implementation, and ongoing modification of an optimal patient and unborn baby care plan.
- Establish a therapeutic relationship by demonstrating empathy, trust, and respect, advocating for patients' rights to privacy, dignity, and access to information.
- Participate in the care and discharge planning process for patients on admission, ensuring the care plan is established and implemented effectively.
- Coordinate nursing care for patients and make referrals to the inter-professional care team according to established protocols and practice standards.
- Collaborate with members of the inter-professional care team, including physicians, patient care coordinators, clinical nurse educators, and other healthcare professionals/providers as required.
- Graduate from an approved School of Nursing.
- Current practicing registration as a Registered Nurse with the British Columbia College of Nurses and Midwives (BCCNM).
- One year's recent, related clinical perinatal nursing experience in the designated clinical area and completion of postgraduate basic coursework and/or certification in perinatal nursing applicable to the designated clinical area, or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.
- Current Basic Rescuer (Level C) and Neonatal Resuscitation (NRP) Certificates.
The successful candidate will work in a fast-paced, dynamic environment, providing care to patients and their families in a perinatal clinical unit. The ideal candidate will possess excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively in a team environment.
