English Language Learning Specialist

The Abbotsford School District is seeking a highly skilled and dedicated English Language Learning Specialist to join our team. As an Itinerant ELL Teacher, you will work directly with English language learners at assigned elementary, middle, and/or secondary schools.
Key Responsibilities- Generate Assessment and Instruction Plans (AIPs) using appropriate testing materials such as IPT or BC ELL Standards.
- Model culturally responsive teaching and support English language learners with inquiry-based learning.
- Collaborate with school-based teams, District departments, parents, and community services to build connections and present to stakeholders.
- Administer and interpret IPT Assessments, and provide training and support to colleagues.
- Develop and implement the full cycle of teacher collaboration, including leading collaboration meetings, co-teaching, co-assessing, and co-planning.
- Teaching English as a Second Language (TESL) Certificate from an accredited program.
- Abbotsford Academic English Language Program certification.
- Training and experience administering and interpreting IPT Assessments.
- Experience teaching ELL learners at the elementary, middle, or secondary school levels.
- Experience using technology to facilitate language acquisition.
- Experience implementing the blended model of instruction to support English language acquisition.
- Valid BC Driver's license and access to a personal vehicle.
- Eligible for B.C. Certification.
- Satisfactory teacher evaluation and/or final practicum reports.
- Communication & Interpersonal Skills: Ability to consider and respond appropriately to the needs, feelings, and capabilities of others in a tactful, compassionate, and respectful manner.
- Organization & Planning: Ability to plan and organize for effective instruction, differentiation, and assessment.
- Classroom Management: Create and maintain an optimal learning environment for each student while managing student behavior and classroom dynamics.
- Facilitation & Engagement: Ability to capture and maintain students' interest, effort, participation, and enthusiasm for both the content and the process of learning.
- Assessment & Coaching: Utilize balanced assessment and feedback to improve student learning, including the use of formative and summative assessment strategies.
- Collaboration & Teamwork: Collaborate with others to achieve group goals and objectives.
- Caring & Inclusiveness: Create and maintain an environment that is caring, inclusive, and supportive of all students.
- Flexibility & Adaptability: Demonstrate flexibility in the ability to adjust and adapt to changing circumstances.
