Global Tax Planning Specialist

The Role
As our Senior Finance Manager, Taxation, you'll play a crucial role in managing our global tax planning strategies and initiatives. You'll work closely with our Senior Director, Taxation, to ensure compliance with tax regulations while optimizing our tax liabilities.
Key Responsibilities
- Manage cross-border tax issues, transfer pricing, and the tax implications of international business transactions.
- Identify opportunities for tax optimization and operational efficiencies, driving initiatives that enhance our overall tax position.
- Collaborate with internal and external stakeholders to ensure alignment and execution of tax strategies.
- Work closely with finance, legal, and business units to provide tax insights and support strategic initiatives.
- Collaborate with outside tax advisors and tax counsel, as needed, to ensure effective tax support and guidance.
- Oversee and manage tax compliance preparation workstreams.
- Stay ahead of changes in tax regulations and adjust our strategies accordingly.
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in Finance, Accounting, Taxation, or a related field.
- A CPA, CA, or equivalent qualification.
- 8+ years of experience in tax planning, with a significant portion focused on Canadian tax systems and cross-border experience with the US.
- Strong knowledge of federal, provincial, state, and local tax laws and regulations, with the ability to interpret and apply complex tax concepts.
- Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to analyze financial data and identify tax implications.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to effectively communicate complex tax issues to non-tax professionals.
- A proven track record of managing cross-functional projects with multiple dependencies in a fast-paced environment.
Bonus Points
- Advanced degree in taxation, finance, or a related field (e.g., Master of Taxation, LLM in Taxation) is highly desirable.
- Global taxation experience is a strong asset.
- Experience with US GAAP and ASC 740 tax accounting reporting.
- Experience with indirect tax compliance (e.g. GST, PST, VAT, and sales tax) and related reporting systems.
