Position Overview:

Our esteemed client, a prominent player in the Oil & Gas sector, is looking for a dedicated Site Operations Engineer to enhance their operational capabilities.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Deliver on-site process engineering assistance to Operations and relevant stakeholders in both Thermal and Conventional Heavy Oil sectors.
  • Utilize engineering principles and analytical skills to address safety, environmental, and integrity challenges, while optimizing facility efficiency and identifying opportunities for operational expenditure reduction.

Specific Duties Include:

  • Collaborate with Operations to:
  • Troubleshoot and resolve operational equipment and process challenges, providing actionable recommendations.
  • Validate process modifications, ensure functional integrity, and conduct equipment sizing and rating through the development and refinement of process simulation models and engineering calculations.
  • Identify and address facility bottlenecks and process enhancement opportunities; frame and scope solutions accordingly.
  • Address safety, environmental, and integrity issues; define and frame resolutions.
  • Assist in the intake process for engineering investigations and management of change requests.
  • Conduct process release calculations to support safety incident investigations.
  • Provide process engineering expertise for operational risk assessments, project hazard analyses, and related evaluations.
  • Establish, implement, monitor, and maintain Safe Operating Limits for facilities.
  • Facilitate integrated production planning by recognizing and managing facility constraints.
  • Support facility outages by assessing production impacts, conducting risk assessments, and performing necessary engineering calculations and modeling.
  • Engage in performance monitoring of facility processes and equipment to enhance business performance and operational efficiency.
  • Conduct process engineering investigations and manage small-scale engineering changes.
  • Coordinate with Facilities Engineering to address process engineering needs for initial scoping and execution of investigations and changes.
  • Oversee process trials, including chemical and optimization trials.
  • Collaborate with capital project teams to ensure operational conditions are considered during project scoping.
  • Support the Enhanced Production Audit Program through various engineering reviews and audits.
  • Gather and analyze data to meet business requirements.
  • Ensure engineering work aligns with professional practice management standards.
  • Contribute to the ongoing improvement of business processes and documentation.

Required Competencies:

  • Solid understanding of upstream processes and equipment.
  • Strong grasp of engineering principles coupled with exceptional analytical problem-solving abilities.
  • Ability to collaborate effectively with operations, maintenance, and engineering teams to achieve objectives.
  • Capacity to prioritize and manage multiple demands in a dynamic operational environment.
  • Effective listening skills and the ability to appreciate diverse perspectives.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.

Qualifications:

  • Legal eligibility to work in Canada.
  • Registration with APEGS as a Professional Engineer.
  • Degree in Chemical Engineering or a related field with a focus on process engineering.
  • A minimum of 8 years of relevant industry experience.
  • Experience in operational process engineering roles is advantageous.
  • Prior experience in process engineering design is a plus.
  • Proficiency in process simulation software (e.g., HYSYS, Unisim).
  • Expertise in process calculations, including control valve sizing, piping hydraulics, and vessel sizing.
