Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled and dedicated Healthcare Professional to join our team at the Government of Prince Edward Island. As a Registered Nurse, you will play a vital role in providing exceptional medical care to adult offenders in our Provincial Correctional Centre.

Key Responsibilities
  • Conduct thorough health assessments and develop personalized treatment plans and referrals for offenders.
  • Provide nursing care under medical direction or independently, ensuring the highest level of patient care and safety.
  • Evaluate and report on treatment plans and therapeutic interventions, collaborating with other healthcare providers and PCC staff as needed.
  • Ensure all activities comply with relevant legislation, policies, and procedures, including the Correctional Services Act and Regulations.
  • Administer medications, carry out treatments and procedures, and gather body fluid specimens for testing as ordered.
  • Assess offenders' dental, eye care, and general health, notifying Floor Supervisors of medical appointments for transportation purposes.
  • Provide supportive counseling to offenders, participate in case management activities, and coordinate physician institutional visits.
  • Maintain accurate and up-to-date client medical files, adhering to standard practice, policy, and legislative requirements.
  • Arrange for offender transportation to hospital, prepare hospital documentation, and pre-admission tests as needed.
  • Communicate relevant information to Unit, Floor, and/or Casework Supervisors, and advise PCC and PRCC nursing staff and Centre physicians of important updates.
  • Act as a preceptor/mentor to students as part of their clinical placement, identifying health-related educational needs of offenders and collaborating with others to meet those needs.
  • Participate in the planning and implementation of health promotion activities for both offenders and PCC staff.
Requirements
  • Registered Nurse with a strong background in healthcare and medical care.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively with diverse populations.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to evaluate and report on treatment plans and therapeutic interventions.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and handle sensitive information with discretion.
  • Flexibility and adaptability, with the ability to work in a fast-paced environment and prioritize tasks effectively.
