About the Role

Ciena is committed to fostering a culture that prioritizes individual growth, wellbeing, and belonging. As a Senior Optical System Designer, you will be part of a team that defines photonic system features and architectures, and develops control strategies to operate them.

Key Responsibilities
  • Author the Product Specification Agreement, detailing high-level requirements for new features or architecture.
  • Collaborate with Product Line Managers to clarify and negotiate customer requirements.
  • Generate innovative ideas and solutions, balancing complexity and feasibility.
  • Support customer demonstrations of new features or prototypes.
  • Assist with complex field issues escalated from the support organization.
  • Mentor junior team members.
Requirements
  • Deep understanding of fiber optic communication systems and optical technologies/architectures.
  • Excellent communication, interpersonal, and teamwork skills.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Proven ability to multitask and prioritize tasks.
Experience
  • In-depth knowledge of optical DWDM photonic platforms and their applications.
  • Ability to troubleshoot complex issues and provide RCA.
  • Understanding of optical link budgeting and application to new designs.
  • Familiarity with YANG data model structures and NBI.
  • Knowledge of network planning and/or optical planning tools.
Location
  • Full-time position based in Ottawa.
Compensation

The annual salary range for this position is $90,800 to $145,000 CAD.

Pay ranges at Ciena are designed to accommodate variations in knowledge, skills, experience, market conditions, and locations.
